Bringing a Cat to a New Home

Introducing a cat into a new home can be extremely stressful. Newly rehomed cats may hide away or show a reduced desire to interact. Anxiety can cause cats to go off their food and/or induce diarrhoea or vomiting, and occasionally cats may start scratching and/or spraying.

These problems can be avoided by being patient and attentive to your cats needs. It is important to offer safe hiding places and enough space for each cat to sleep, eat and go to the toilet in peace.

The synthetic feline pheromone product Feliway can also provide invaluable support. Creating a state of well-being and calm, Feliway mimics your cat’s natural pheromones, comforting your cat and encouraging it to settle quickly in the new environment allowing your cat to quickly adjust to its new home.

A Feliway diffuser should be plugged in a week before your cat is expected to allow the pheromone to build up in your new home.
